It is an inorganic salt of potassium which is highly hygroscopic and highly soluble in water
Used as oxidizing agent and corrosion inhibotor in washing with hot potash for removal of Co2 from gas streams like synthesis gas. It is more soluble than sodium nitrite and does not form sparingly soluble bicarbonate in carbondioxide rich solutions.
